Welcome to my jungle...

A song for all ex-messengers...

Kink in the Cable (re-write of Harry Chaphin's Cat's in the Cradle)

My new bike arrived just the other day
Came to my house in the usual way
But there were cars to drive and games to play
I forgot to ride while I was away
I was fat before I knew it and as I ate
I said, I’m still hungry
Can you fill my plate

There’s a kink in the cable
And the brakes don’t work,
Rear mechs broken
And the chain is fucked
When you coming riding,
I don’t know when
We’ll get together then, you know we’ll have a good time then

My gut turned round just the other day
I no longer sit ‘cause I have to lay
Will you come for a ride, I said not today
If I sit on my bike, the frame will pay
And they rode away and they smiled and they said
We’re never gonna be like that, no
We’re never gonna be like that

There’s a kink in the cable
And the brakes don’t work,
Rear mechs broken
And the chain is fucked
When you coming riding,
I don’t know when
We’ll get together then, you know we’ll have a good time then

I rode on my bike just the other day
Slow as Brian I just had to say
What’s happened to me, I used to fly
My legs are hurting and I need to cry
What I’m feeling like, now, is to call a cab
Where’s my phone, I need to move my flab

There’s a kink in the cable
And the brakes don’t work,
Rear mechs broken
And the chain is fucked
When you coming riding,
I don’t know when
We’ll get together then, you know we’ll have a good time then

I’m long gone bald and my bike’s in the shed
As much use as the hair on my head
I’d like to ride, if you don’t mind
It said no chance fatty you’ll snap my spine
You see my frame is rusted and the spokes need renewed
And the bearings are all seized up, the bearings are all seized up
And as I walked down the path it occurred to me
My bike was needing grease, my bike was needing grease

There’s a kink in the cable
And the brakes don’t work,
Rear mechs broken
And the chain is fucked
When you coming riding,
I don’t know when
We’ll get together then, you know we’ll have a good time then     X2
